Jeremiah Allen account book, 1714-1716.

Account book kept by Jeremiah Allen as treasurer and receiver general of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, 31 May 1714 - 30 May 1716, recording town revenues, listed by counties, and town expenses made by order of the governor (Joseph Dudley, 1714-15; Samuel Shute, 1716) and General Court. Includes, among other expenses, payments for snowshoes, a door keeper for the governor, ministers posted in various towns in Massachusetts, election dinners held in local taverns, an "Indian interpreter," maintenance of weapons, gunpowder, services to the president of Harvard College, and a lighthouse on Beacon Island. Also includes records of payments for services of the governor, lieutenant governor, and judges.
